Deductive Teaching Strategy

DEDUCTIVE TEACHING STRATEGY.

 - coming from unknown to known, complex to simple, and abstract to concrete.

  - teacher will define the topic whereas the students are not given a chance to say their views.

 - deductive teaching strategy is also sometime called as Direct Instruction.

Purposes of Deductive Teaching Strategy.

* students retain information better through this mode of learning.

* less time consuming.

* better transfer of learning.

* teacher can use a broad spectrum of materials.

The phase in Deductive Teaching are :

Phase 1: presentation of the abstraction.\

Phase 2: teacher illustration.

Phase 3: students give example of concepts or students apply generalization yo a new situation.

Phase 4: students restate what they have learned concept or generalization.

The role of a Teacher.

* he or she gives and disseminates all information.

* acts as the information coordinator.

The role of Students:

* remembering previous principles, or generalization.

* applying in a new situation.

* passive listener.

* carries out activities after teacher's instruction.

ADVANTAGES OF DEDUCTIVE TEACHING STRATEGY.

- Less time consuming.

- different from rote learning.

- involves all level of questions.

- quicker way to teach concepts.

DISADVANTAGES OF DEDUCTIVE TEACHING STRATEGY.

- Students are not active in the beginning of a deductive lesson.

- its a teacher-centered.

- less constructivist.

- not challenging for brighter students.

Characteristics of Deductive Teaching.

*  does not give any new knowledge.

* quick process.

* method of verification.

* method of instruction.

* also known as direct instruction.

*  used in a large classroom setting.

The difference:

INDUCTIVE TEACHING                                    DEDUCTIVE TEACHING

1. method of discovery.                                            1. method of verification.

2. is full of activities.                                                 2. less scope of activities.

3.gives new knowledge.                                             3. does not give new knowledge.

4. method of teaching                                                 4. method of instruction.

week two

INDUCTIVE TEACHING....

Is also known as discovery teaching or inquiry teaching.

The kind of inquiry that calls for students to investigate rules, principles and generalizations is called INDUCTIVE.

AND...

It is also kind of teaching  the students from known to unknown, simple to complex and concrete to abstract.

* There are two types of Inductive Teaching namely:

1. Guided Inductive- here the teacher will guide their students(teachers provide them with basic lesson) but wants the students to make their own generalizations

2. Unguided Inductive- teachers allow the students to provide the case and to make the generalizations, this process is known as unguided inductive teaching.

The phases/procedural steps of Inductive Teaching:

 Phase 1- the open ended phase.

Phase 2- the convergent phase.

Phase 3- closure .

phase 4- the application phase.

PURPOSE OF INDUCTIVE TEACHING.

* Allows students to be discoverer in the process of learning.

* It is student-centered.

* Allows students to apply generalization.

* Allows students to draw generalization.

* students  gain investigative skills.

Advantages of INDUCTIVE TEACHING.

- Construct knowledge and skill.

- Students have conscious control of a powerful tool for learning.

-The learning is not the end but it can be applied in further classwork.

Disadvantages of INDUCTIVE TEACHING.

- The content coverage can be minimum.

-Inductive discovery needs a verification, in different cases, through deduction.

teaching strategy

TEACHING STRATEGY

Teaching Strategy.
- an instructional strategy in which there is a particular arrangement of the teachers, learners of the environment to produce desired learning outcomes. or it also means teaching plan.

Teaching Method.
-it is the way of teaching in a correct way.

Teaching Skill.
-it is the teaching ability or the teaching talent.

Teaching Approach.
-it is teaching plan or teaching method.

Teaching Technique.
-it is the skill (teaching skill).

Teaching Tactics.
-it is the teaching strategy.

1. strategy- Tactics- Approach (same)
2. Method- Approach- Technique(same)
3. skill- technique(same)

The five process of teaching are:
1. Planning/ skill.
2. Learning themselves.
3. Content:
4. Environment.
5. Time management.
